The AcE Public School was founded in January 2015 when Jorge Encalada, our Honduran Director of Operations, shared his dream of building a public school in his community of San Pedro Sula to our President, Michael Mastroianni.
Working hand-in-hand with the Honduran government, Jorge and Mike turned this dream into a reality and galvanized the community to build their own school, which now provides hundreds of children with an opportunity to receive a primary and high school education.
AcE takes particular pride in our 96% graduation rate, in a country where the majority of students cannot afford to attend school past the 5th grade. We are consistently working to bring additional opportunities to our students, and are committed to providing them with the foundation and resources necessary to succeed.
Students for Change Scholarship Fund
The Students for Change Scholarship Program aims to identify students from particularly at-risk and underserved families and support them through receiving a college education, along with offering weekend English literacy courses to help advance their future career potential. The Fund began in 2016 and has already provided annual stipends to 8 of our students, including 2 of our alumni who are now pursuing their undergraduate degrees. Eligible students must meet at least two of the following criteria: i) family of 5+ children, ii) single/unemployed parent(s), iii) current or former AcE Public School student, iv) pursuing higher education.

Stipends are to be used for food, housing, and academic supplies. We are placing an emphasis on annual continuity for the currently enrolled students, however significantly more students meet eligibility criteria who we hope to enroll in the future. This program's success will be measured by primary school graduation and secondary school matriculation rates for scholarship fund recipients.

AcE Technical School
Our AcE Public School hosts a tuition-free Technical School on weekends that trains adults to become domestic/industrial electricians and HVAC technicians. This program was started in 2019 (albeit interrupted by COVID) and gives our students the flexibility to work full-time and help provide for their families while they train on the weekends to enter a more lucrative profession. Upon completion of the 2 year program, our graduates receive a government-accredited certification to begin their careers.

This school was founded to provide a solution to the cycle of poverty and lack of economic opportunity throughout the country, leading to powerful gangs trying to fill the void. We hope the AcE Technical School will serve as a sustainable model for improving the long-term economic viability of the community, and initiate the establishment of future trade schools throughout the region.
